Founder

  • Value statement: Knowing the founder of a company provides valuable information about the identity of the company.
  • Definition: “A person directly involved with the initial inception of this organization, often marked by the conception of the idea for the organization or the purchasing of operating assets. Even when a founding individual leaves the company and is no longer serving an active role, they can still be considered a founder due to their work establishing the company.“
  • Tooltip definition of the predicate: “Person associated with the founding of this entity”
  • Type of value: Entity
  • For enums - all possible values: N/A
  • # of accepted values: Multiple
  • Inverse Properties and Name: ‘Founder of’
  • Examples of proper use:
  • Examples of improper use:
    • Satya Nadella’ → ‘Founder’ → ‘Microsoft’. Satya is the current CEO of Microsoft but was not involved in the inception of the company.

Founder of

  • Value statement: Knowing what organizations this person has founded is valuable information to understand the person’s previous experience and interests.
  • Definition: “An organization that this person was directly involved with the initial inception of, often marked by the person’s intention to start the organization or the purchasing of operating assets for the organization.“
  • Tooltip definition of the predicate: “Organization known to be founded by this person”
  • Type of value: Entity
  • For enums - all possible values: N/A
  • # of accepted values: Multiple
  • Allow ‘no value’: No
  • Inverse Properties and Name: ‘Founder’
  • Examples of proper use:
  • Examples of improper use:
    • Satya Nadella’ → ‘Founder of’ → ‘Microsoft’. Satya is the current CEO of Microsoft but was not involved in the inception of the company.

Applying to both of these predicates:

  • Estimated cardinality of this predicate: ~2 billion, twice the rough expectation on the number of companies/organizations that will be in Golden’s graph (assuming on average two founders per organization).

  • Estimated frequency of new values or changes: Almost never - the founder of an organization is a durable trait.

This looks good to me! I like the example of improper use making it clear that a CEO might not necessarily be a founder.
